STRENGTHS
Scoring instincts - Jaylen Adams is aggressive looking for his shot. If given an inch, he will pull up from 3 and is proficient from all 3 levels. Hunts down free throw opportunities by initiating contact on his drives to the rim and shoots well from the line. Good transition scorer.
Creativity - Has an assortment of crossovers and hesitations in his arsenal to set up pull up jumpers and drives to the rim. Uses the hang dribble well and will put his defending in jail coming off the screen. Patient while creating
PNR Ballhandler - Adams is effective in high PNR as well as side PNRs. If the defender gets hung up on the screen or makes the mistake of going under, Adams will make him pay from 3. Very good finisher once he gets into the paint off the screen as well. He has good timing on his pick and pop passing.
Positional defense - He gives a proper cushion vs quicker guards that allows him to cut off the drive and still contest pull up jumpers. Adams stays in good position off ball to help and recover to the spot up.
WEAKNESSES
Athleticism -Adams compensates well for average athleticism in the A-10 but it remains to be seen if his craft and IQ will still cover for him as he reaches higher levels of competition. Needs to develop a floater
Shot Selection - While his aggressiveness is a positive for his team, Adams can be overly aggressive at times with his pull up jumper. He sometimes takes highly contested shots that force him to alter his shot mechanics to get off
Passing -Doesn't get into the middle of the defense and find shooters on the perimeter. Limited sample of Adams looking for a rolling big
Turnovers -His assist to turnover ratio dipped below 2:1 for the 2nd year in a row. He's particularly turnover prone in PNR when he goes away from the screen and can't create separation
